Victoria Park Wedding – Rachel & Joni

A wedding ceremony held at Victoria Park, Brisbane

Right before all the social-distancing measures and wedding restrictions came to be, Rachel and Joni tied the knot at an intimate, beautiful, llama-filled Victoria Park wedding. Located in Herston, just a few suburbs north of the Brisbane CBD, Victoria Park has got to be one of Brisbane’s most popular and most versatile venues to have a wedding. With two different outdoor ceremony spots, and six indoor reception areas (that can also double-up as ceremony spots) seating anywhere up to 370 guests, there’s a lot of convenience and flexibility when you plan a Victoria Park wedding.

A cloudy sky and a forecast of rain meant that Rachel & Joni’s ceremony had to be moved indoors, but Victoria Park’s cosy Garden Marquee was just as good a place as any to get married. The rain never came, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! There were a few Jewish customs included in their wedding, with Joni’s sisters reading a short passage, kippahs for the men (I took mine home!) and the much-anticipated breaking of the glass – which may have taken a few more stomps than expect, but Joni got there in the end. And after a few tears and laughs, these two animal-lovers ran outside to finally play and walk with their wedding llamas.

We then went for a little drive on some golf buggies to get some wedding photos around Victoria Park’s scenic spots, including a pretty flower hedge, and a hill perfectly located to overlook the Brisbane skyline.

Rachel and Joni opted for a cocktail style reception in the Garden Marquee rather than having a seated reception, which gave more of a casual vibe instead of a formal feel. Cocktail receptions also mean you and your guests can freely roam and mingle instead of being stuck in your assigned seat for most of the night, so it can be a good option if you want to talk to all of your guests. And they finished off their Victoria Park wedding in great style: a build-your-own nacho station, a vintage ice-cream stand, and plenty of drinks an dancing to finish off the night.
