Kim and Jono did everything their way. Their venue was held in their own backyard, decorated with fairy lights and lanterns that they painstakingly hung up themselves. The handmade stage on which they had their ceremony doubled as their dancefloor. Kim handmade one-of-a-kind dresses for each of her bridesmaids. Not to mention their very own custom cocktail bar, fire pits, a s’mores station, and a wedding cake pinata (literally a cake smash). They poured their love and effort into this DIY backyard wedding, and it made it one of the best, unique weddings I’ve attended.
Apart from that, Kim and Jono are genuinely some of the loveliest people I’ve met, and super easy to photograph. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with them a few months before the wedding, and it’s still one of my favourite photoshoots to this day!
If you’re planning your own backyard wedding, you should know that it’s possible, and it pays off. You’ll be investing a lot of your time and energy, and that’s not for everyone. But if you’re up for a bit of work and a great payoff, go for it!
